Ririe-Woodbury Dance CompanyRE-MIX
The winter performance of RE-MIX includes three compelling and thought-provoking dances. Scenes for and Ending (2023), by Raja Feather Kelly, will make its return to the Salt Lake City stage. Kelly says of this dance, “‘Scenes for and Ending’ is a love letter to the past, to a friend, to a lover, to the future, it is touch, it is poetry, it is and is not a dance. Whatever you see is real, it’s actually happening.” Accompanying this work is an original score by recording artist Emily Wells. The Company will premiere a new work titled The Rate We Change (2022), by Salt Lake City choreographer Kellie St. Pierre. This piece features 6 dancers and a human-powered spinning platform. The work is inspired by the effect of ongoingness within a changing world and through the sharing of roles and collective care, adaptation through connection is made possible. The Rate We Change features an original score by Salt Lake City composer Daniel Clifton. Finally, the return of guest choreographer and alumnus Company dancer jo Blake’s coincidences, when we meet up (2022) rounds out this compelling program. This reflective trio focuses on personal connection of radical self-love and clarity of voice discovered by experiencing trauma. Plunging, swirling, and diving amongst the complications of today’s social issues, this dance invites the ever-changing, coordinated, and repeated murmurs of individual growth and change. This dance is accompanied by an original score by Salt Lake City composer, Trevor Price.

Live at the Eccles STOMP
STOMP is explosive, provocative, sophisticated, sexy, utterly unique and appeals to audiences of all ages. The international percussion sensation has garnered an armful of awards and rave reviews, and has appeared on numerous national television shows. The eight-member troupe uses everything but conventional percussion instruments – matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, hubcaps – to fill the stage with magnificent rhythms. The return of the percussive hit also brings some new surprises, with some sections of the show now updated and restructured and the addition of two new full-scale routines, utilizing props like tractor tire inner tubes and paint cans. As USA Today says, “STOMP finds beautiful noises in the strangest places.” STOMP. See what all the noise is about.
