Live at the Eccles presents Science Friday Live on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at the Eccles Theater on Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City. ArtTix is the official source for tickets for Live at the Eccles events.
Join Ira Flatow, Flora Lichtman, and the Science Friday team as we hit the road to uncover and report on the amazing science news and stories happening in Utah! This is your chance to peek behind the curtain of your favorite national radio show and participate in a special live performance with the experts and conversations you love.
Get a sneak peek at what we’ll be featuring on stage:
Meet Lokiceratops, a behemoth of a dinosaur that roamed the Earth more than 78 million years ago. We’ll dig into how this dino was discovered and what makes it so scientifically special with the Natural History Museum of Utah paleontologists who discovered it: Dr. Mark Loewen, a professor at the University of Utah, and Savhannah Carpenter, the museum’s school outreach coordinator. Who knows, Loki may even make a special appearance…
And, have you ever heard of the Southwest peach? These trees once thrived across the southwest US in orchards tended by Navajo, Hopi, Zuni and other tribes. Today, efforts are underway to bring back the fruit and reconnect Native communities with traditional practices and support local sustainability. We’ll speak with Reagan Wytsalucy about how her research has taken her across the Four Corners region to find these trees, and KUER reporter David Condos will speak about his reporting on her work.
Plus, how do you bring the complex inner world of a cell to life? And what exactly goes into making a compelling natural history museum diorama? We’ll hear from Dr. Janet Iwasa, a biosciences professor who runs the University of Utah’s Animation Lab, and Tim Lee, director of exhibits at the Natural History Museum of Utah, about how they break down complicated science concepts for the public, and the surprising connections between their work and big-budget Hollywood films.
This 2-hour program features interactive moments, props, audience Q&A, and science demonstrations. As a bonus, the event will be recorded for the Science Friday radio show, so you can be a part of a future broadcast! (We’ll give attendees a head’s up when they can tune in to re-listen to their favorite moments.) Live music will be provided by Staycation, a Salt Lake City-based band.
This event is presented by KUER and Live at the Eccles.
