Versatility Dance Festival presents the best in emerging and established dance companies and dance filmmakers. The presenting organization, T2 Dance Company (T2), resides in Boulder, Colorado, which is where the festival takes place annually as well as one other national city. For 2022, that national city is Salt Lake City, Utah. The audience will get a taste of contemporary dance on stage as well as the rising genre of dance cinema, all in one show (GET TICKETS HERE!).
The festival is still in its youth. Starting in 2019, T2 presented the festival at the Dairy Arts Center (Boulder, CO) and at Highways Performance Space (Santa Monica, CA). 2022 will see the festival presented at the Dairy Arts Center and also at the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center (Salt Lake City, UT).
The 2022 festival line-up in Colorado included CoreDance Contemporary (NY), Gaudanse inc. (LA), Hannah Kahn Dance Company (CO), Industrial Dance Alliance (CO), Jamal Jackson Dance Company (NY), Rocky Mountain Rhythm (CO), and T2 Dance Company (CO).
The line-up for Utah this February will include Atlas Dance Collective (UT), CoreDance Contemporary (NY), Erica Isakower (NJ), Gaudanse inc. (LA), Oquirrh West Dance Project (UT), SALT Dance (UT), T2 Dance Company (CO), Vitacca Ballet (TX), and Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company (UT).
Dance films presented at both locations include This Car Up from Director Ari Christopher – a film that activates civic healing around the 100-year mark of the Tulsa Race Massacre. From Where I Stand is a film by Director Austin Hartel – a solo man speaks with simple gestures that grow into a heartfelt outpouring of movement. He is a man who asks only to be heard. And finally, Unspoken, a film that we can all related to in some way by Director William Armstrong. This film is centred around world-class contemporary choreographer Paul Lightfoot (Artistic Director of the Netherlands Dance Theatre) losing his father during the pandemic. Not permitted into the hospital to say goodbye, he began working with a Danish dancer remotely to create a performance that processes the emotions he and many have shared worldwide. The result is a look behind the curtain into the process of a modern master interpreting loss into physical form – and a powerful beacon of hope to carry us through uncertain times.
The aim of the festival is to provide performance and networking opportunities to the artists involved and to provide audiences with a taste of dance, on stage and screen, from all over the country and beyond – a versatile take on contemporary dance today.
About T2 Dance Company:
The mission of T2 Dance Company, formerly T2 Dance Project, is to enrich the dance scene. We achieve this by presenting high quality contemporary dance theatre on stage, on screen, and in non-traditional spaces, and through initiatives that provide unique choreographic opportunities and experiences to the community. We believe that working together with collaborators, independent dance artists, and cross-disciplinary artists creates unique and vibrant work, and allows for greater involvement in the arts for all.
Why T2? The T2 Lane in Australia is the transit lane for vehicles carrying 2 or more people. This lane allows those traveling together to drive in a designated express lane avoiding the rest of the traffic. We believe that working together to make art works allows us to excel creatively.
